I have an enterprise-wide retetion policy for Deleted Items. It has been working very well, except that I notice that when a user deletes a FOLDER containing emails the folder never gets deleted and stays indefinitely under the Deleted Items folder. Is there any way to make the policy apply to folders?

On your Deleted Items retention policy, is the Message Type set to "All Mailbox Content"? We ours set to this and the folders are being deleted.

I don't see an option for that. We're using Retention Policy Tags and Policies (E2K10.) It appears that the items in the folders are being deleted, but not the folders themselves. I just looked at a user's mailbox with over 100 subfolders under Deleted Items - all empty.

I was referring to E2K7 and not E2K10.

Hi, As we known, users can't apply or change an RPT applied to a default folder such as the Inbox, Deleted Items,, but they can apply a different tag to the subfolder in a default folder. As default, RPTs apply retention settings to default folders such as the Inbox, Deleted Items, and Sent Items. Mailbox items in a default folder that have an RPT applied inherit the folder's tag. I suggest you checking the following aspects: 1. Is there any other tag applied to the folder (you deleted)? If there is, please remove it. 2.
